I am not exaggerating. The new Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre just outside of Blenheim combines the largest private collection of World War I aircraft in the world with the dramatic inspiration of Lord of the Rings director, Peter Jackson, and the result is a museum display for the twenty-first century.
This really is the most amazing museum display I have ever seen and, to be fair, I have seen far too many of them over the years and have suffered museum legs, ennui and near-terminal boredom as I have struggled to keep my senses alert as one more static display has drifted by.
Every display is characterised by creative inspiration, superb attention to detail and a very unconventional sense of drama.
